1st Colonial Grill is one of the restaurants I frequent to since they opened at their old address in Old Albay, Legazpi City. This original location I'm referring to is one of the oldest buildings in Albay where La Mia Tazza and 21st Ammendment are currently residing. After the move to their Daraga address, 1st Colonial Grill have since opened several branches within the province. Now, 1st Colonial Grill has a restaurant in Pacific Mall Legazpi, in Ayala Malls Legazpi, and just recently, in SM Legazpi. As far as I know, they also have a branch in Sorsogon City and Naga City.
1st Colonial Grill is known for their authentic Bicolano cuisines such as laing, pinangat, Bicol Express, tinutungang manok, and their famous sili ice cream. I'm from Bicol and although I enjoy those dishes, what I've come to love about this restaurant are the proven Filipino favorites that they serve. And that's what we usually order when dining at 1st Colonial Grill. The photos in this post was when my brother and I had a late lunch at their Ayala Mall branch. Take a look.
First on the table is Lechon Kawali -- deep fried pork belly until crispy and crunchy then dipped in Mang Tomas sauce. Yum! Comfort food. I can eat lechon kawali everyday if not for my hypertension. Pftt!
We also ordered Crispy Spring Rolls, in Filipino, lumpia shanghai. This dish is present in our everyday meal and all family gatherings and yet, we still can't get enough of it.
1st Colonial Grill Ayala Malls branch also have set meals served with unlimited tinapa fried rice. This is my brother's plate, he's a fan of Baby Back Ribs. This set meal came with a veggie side dish which came later so was not photographed. We were hungry so we started eating right after I took this photo.
And here's what's on my plate, sizzling Pork Sisig with pinakbet on the side, also came with unlimited tinapa fried rice.

We had pink lemonade for our thirst-quencher, and a few minutes after they've cleared our table, we ordered our ultimate favorite from 1st Colonial Grill, their halo-halo. Sometimes we drop by their restaurant just to eat halo-halo. It's got ube halaya (purple ice cream) and the usual halo halo ingredients -- but the main flavor comes from the melon (cantaloupe) ice cream on top. So delicious and creamy.
Yup, we were full that day. I've tried many of what's in their menu including their seaweed salad (tried this many many years ago, not sure if it's still being served), and their "Bahay Kubo" salad that comes with a rendition of this folk song while the salad is being served. There was a time when I ordered their "Bahay Kubo" salad and it was the only dish I ordered because I found out I inherited the family disease (hypertension) thus avoiding sodium and cholesterol in my diet at that time. And I ordered it twice, so yeah, they sang "Bahay Kubo" twice too. LOL.

My brother and I will always be a fan of 1st Colonial Grill. I've dined in their Sorsogon branch and Naga branch, and I've visited all of their restaurants in Albay. They try to implement their colonial, old house ambiance across all of their restaurants so diners can enjoy their meals more with that homey atmosphere. Aside from their truly delicious Bicolano dishes, they also add a touch of Bicolano taste to some foreign cuisines like pasta,
noodles (pansit), burgers, and steaks -- so you wouldn't miss out on anything. With regards to their staff, I had no problem with their service every time I'm there. I hope they maintain and uphold this high standard of food and service because they definitely represent the Bicolanos and the Bicolano culture. That being said, I could further say that 1st Colonial is worth your time and money. If you're a tourist, I do recommend you try out this restaurant.
